Description

The Singer Feed Dog (part # 181843) is a classic "wear item" known for its unique rubber-tipped teeth. This original-style feed dog was designed to provide a firm yet gentle grip on delicate fabrics, preventing the "teeth marks" that standard all-metal feed dogs can sometimes leave on fine materials. The feed dog is the toothed component beneath the presser foot that grips and moves fabric through the machine during sewing, ensuring even stitch formation and consistent seam quality.

Specifications:

  • Part Number: 181843
  • Type: Replacement (aftermarket)
  • Material: Metal base with integrated rubber tips
  • Design: Rubber-tipped teeth for gentle fabric handling
  • Function: Grips and advances fabric during sewing without marking delicate materials
  • Metal Alternative: Part # 181843M (all-metal version for increased durability)

Machine Compatibility:

This part is a standard component for many top-of-the-line Singer models from the 1960s through the 1980s:

Touch & Sew / 700 Series: 737, 750, 755, 756, 758, 770, 775, 778

Creative Touch / 1030 Series: 1030, 1036

Futura / 1000 Series: 1000, 1000G, 1040G, 1060

Athena / 2000 Series: 2000, 2000A, 2005

Other Models: 290, 290C, 925, 935U, 1200, 1411, 1411N, 1411U, 1425, 1425N, 1425U, 6700, 6800, 8002, 8007, 8019

Performance & Benefits:

The rubber-tipped design provides gentle fabric handling, making it ideal for delicate materials like silk, chiffon, and fine cottons where metal teeth might leave marks. The rubber tips grip fabric securely without damage, ensuring smooth feeding and professional stitch quality on sensitive fabrics. For those seeking increased durability, an all-metal version (part # 181843M) is also available, though it may require a slight height adjustment to the feed bar.

Installation Note:

Replace a worn, damaged, or missing feed dog to restore proper fabric feeding. Ensure the feed dog is properly installed and aligned with the needle plate for optimal fabric feeding and stitch quality.
