About This Part
This is a genuine original early non-numbered upper thread tension assembly for the Singer 221 Featherweight — the rarer of the two tension styles found on the Featherweight. This style was used on the earliest Featherweights produced from 1933 to 1937 and features no numerical markings on the adjustment knob. Tension is set by feel and stitch appearance rather than a numbered dial.
Unlike the later numbered dial assembly (#45871), this early style uses a visible exterior coiled tension spring and a simpler thumb nut design. The tension stud (post) on these early machines is also slightly different from later models.
Complete original assemblies in excellent condition are increasingly rare and highly sought after by collectors and restorers looking to maintain historical accuracy on their early Featherweights.
