Description

Replacement upper motor V-belt designed for select vintage Bernina sewing machines. This smooth V-belt transfers power from the motor to the machine's drive system, ensuring reliable operation of these classic Bernina models.

Product Specifications

  • Part Number: 305.201.13
  • Type: Motor V-belt (upper)
  • Size: 5mm x 422mm
  • Compatibility: Select vintage Bernina 800 and 900 series models (see list below)

Compatible Bernina Models

800 Series: 801, 801S, 802, 802S, 803, 803S, 807, 808, 809, 810, 830, 831, 832, 833

900 Series: 900

Key Features

  • Upper V-Belt: Specifically the upper motor belt in the drive system
  • Smooth V-Design: Uses friction drive (not toothed like cog belts)
  • 5mm x 422mm Size: Proper dimensions for correct fit and tension
  • Essential Drive Component: Transfers power from motor to machine mechanism
  • Quality Replacement: Manufactured to meet original specifications for reliable performance

When to Replace Your Motor V-Belt

  • Belt is cracked, glazed, or shows visible wear
  • Belt has stretched and slips during operation
  • Machine runs sluggishly or loses power
  • Belt makes squealing noises during operation
  • Machine won't run or runs intermittently
  • Belt shows fraying or separation
  • As preventive maintenance every few years of regular use

Understanding V-Belts vs. Cog Belts

V-belts use a smooth, wedge-shaped design that relies on friction between the belt and pulley grooves to transfer power. This is different from cog belts (used on newer Bernina models) which have teeth that mesh with toothed pulleys. V-belts are simpler but can slip if worn or improperly tensioned, while cog belts provide positive engagement.

IMPORTANT: Belt System Guide - Choose the Correct Lower Belt

These Bernina models all use the same upper belt (this product), but require different lower belts depending on the specific model:

Upper Belt (All Models Listed):

  • Part #305.201.13 (5mm x 422mm) - this product - fits all models listed

Lower Belt - Choose Based on Your Model:

  • For Models 830, 831, 832: Part #305.188.03 (5mm x 260mm) - larger lower belt
  • For All Other Models (707-829, 801-819, 833, 900): Part #305.163.03 (5mm x 236mm) - standard lower belt

How to Choose the Correct Lower Belt: This upper belt fits all models, but you need to select the correct lower belt based on your model number. If your model is 830, 831, or 832, you need the 260mm lower belt (Part #305.188.03). All other models use the 236mm lower belt (Part #305.163.03).

Consider replacing both belts at the same time if performing major maintenance, especially if one belt shows significant wear.

Installation Tips

  • This upper belt fits all models listed - verify your model number to choose the correct lower belt
  • Check belt tension after installation - should be snug but not overly tight
  • Inspect pulleys for wear, cracks, or glazing when replacing belt
  • Ensure belt seats properly in pulley grooves
  • V-belts should not be twisted during installation
  • Consider replacing both upper and lower belts together
  • Keep spare belts on hand for future maintenance
  • Allow new belt to seat in for first few hours of operation
