Description
This is a complete original Singer Simanco blackside bed slide plate set — Parts #54512, #54513, and #8240 — for vintage Singer Model 28 and 128 vibrating shuttle sewing machines. Genuine Singer, pre-owned, very good condition. Sold as a matched set of three.
What’s Included
- Part #54512 (Simanco 54512) — Rear slide plate (back access panel)
- Part #54513 (Simanco 54513) — Front slide plate (front access panel, closest to operator)
- Part #8240 (Simanco 8240) — Needle throat plate
The front and rear slide plates slide apart on the machine bed to provide access to the long bullet-shaped bobbin shuttle used by the 28 and 128 models. The needle throat plate completes the bed assembly and is cut to align with the Simanco #8213 feed dog.
Feed dog note: Part #8240 is specifically paired with the Simanco #8213 feed dog. If your machine has a larger feed dog configuration, this plate will not clear the teeth properly.
Plates measure approximately 3¼” × 1¾”.
About the Blackside Finish
Standard Singer bed plates were finished in polished nickel or chrome. Blackside variants feature a matte dark charcoal black-oxide chemical finish — similar to gun-metal Parkerizing — produced by Singer during and immediately following World War II (roughly 1941–1947).
Wartime U.S. government restrictions placed strict moratoriums on industrial chromium and nickel, both critical for military production. To keep factory lines running without violating resource restrictions, Singer chemically blued or phosphated their steel parts. Blackside components are rare and increasingly sought after by collectors and restorers.
