How to Assemble Your Cone Thread Holder Stand (Part #27449)

Chris Ashmore |

At Vintage Singer Parts, we know how important it is to get your sewing setup just right. Our Cone Thread Holder Stand (Part #27449) is a simple accessory for your vintage Singer sewing machine, but we’ve heard some customers find assembly tricky. Don’t worry—we’ve created this easy guide to help you assemble your thread stand in just 10 minutes! Follow these steps, and you’ll be ready to sew in no time.
What You’ll Need
  • Cone Thread Holder Stand Parts:
    • Cast Iron Base (4 3/4" diameter)
    • Thread Spindle (4 1/4" long, friction-fit)
    • Thread Guide (18" long rod)
  • Tools: Small hammer, flathead screwdriver
Safety First
  • Handle the cast iron base carefully—it’s heavy and can pinch fingers.
  • Use a hammer cautiously when tapping the spindle to avoid injury.
  • Keep small parts away from children to avoid choking hazards.
Assembly Instructions
Follow these steps to assemble your thread stand:
  1. Prepare Your Workspace
    • Place the cast iron base on a flat, stable surface to prevent tipping.
    • Lay out all parts and tools for easy access.
  2. Install the Thread Spindle
    • ALIGN the thread spindle (4 1/4" long) with the hole in the center of the cast iron base.
    • TAP the spindle into the hole using a small hammer until it is securely seated (friction-fit).
    • Note: The spindle does not screw in; it requires a firm tap to fit tightly. Ensure it is straight and fully inserted. (See Figure A)
  3. Insert the Thread Guide
    • INSERT the thread guide (18" long rod) into the designated slot on the cast iron base.
    • TIGHTEN the set screw on the base using a flathead screwdriver to secure the thread guide in place.
    • Tip: Adjust the height of the thread guide as needed before tightening the set screw. (See Figure B)
  4. Position the Thread Cone
    • PLACE the thread cone onto the spindle.
    • GUIDE the thread through the loop at the top of the thread guide and thread your sewing machine as usual.
    • Note: Ensure the thread feeds smoothly without tangling. (See Figure C)

  • Figure B: Diagram of the thread guide being inserted and secured with the set screw.

Troubleshooting Tips
  • Spindle Won’t Fit? Ensure the spindle is aligned straight; tap gently but firmly with a hammer. Check for debris in the base hole.
  • Thread Guide Slipping? Tighten the set screw further to secure the rod. Ensure the screw isn’t stripped.
  • Thread Tangling? Verify the thread guide is positioned correctly, and the thread cone is seated properly on the spindle.
